Communication is essential in any context of human life, it occupies a strategic role in organizations due to its influence on labor relations and the conditions of the work environment. The inability to communicate well, specifically within Public Organizations (POs), generates several organizational problems such as interpersonal relationships issues, verbal violence, deteriorated organizational environment, health problems etc., in addition to impacting the quality of the services final results. In this context, the present study aims to assess the importance of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in mitigating such problems and in building a more collaborative, healthy and harmonious work environment in POs. To elaborate the study, a narrative review of the existing literature on the subject was made. The use of NVC, a tool developed in order to improve interpersonal relationships, becomes a strategy in order to find a way to reduce some negative characteristics present in the public service, such as authoritarian, excessively bureaucratic and centralized environments. In view of what has been exposed in the literature, it is concluded that the use of NVC in POs can contribute to the improvement of the organizational environment, the quality of life of the public employees and the services delivered to society.
